The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482)
The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, subclass 482, is an Australian visa that allows skilled workers to come to Australia and work for an approved employer for a specified period. This visa was designed to address skill shortages in the Australian labor market. The TSS visa has replaced the previous 457 visa program. Here's an overview of the key features of the Subclass 482 visa:
1. Streams:
Short-Term Stream: This stream allows employers to sponsor skilled workers for up to two years. It's designed for occupations on the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).
Medium-Term Stream: This stream allows employers to sponsor skilled workers for up to four years. It's for occupations on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
Labour Agreement Stream: Labor Agreements are negotiated between the Australian government and employers to address specific labor market needs.
2. Employer Sponsorship:
To apply for a TSS visa, a person must be nominated by an employer who is an approved sponsor.
Employers need to meet specific requirements and demonstrate a genuine need for the skilled worker.
Employers must also provide evidence that they are offering terms and conditions of employment that are in line with Australian workplace standards.
3. Occupation Lists:
The occupation lists (STSOL and MLTSSL) determine the duration and conditions of the visa.
